Aung Htun is half Burmese and an engineering graduate from Imperial College, University of London. He brings hands-on experience of starting, building and managing companies, as well as 30 years of corporate finance and private equity experience. He has been active in the capital markets both as an issuer as well as an investor.
In 1982 Aung Htun joined Kleinwort Benson in London in the corporate finance department specialising in M&A. On returning to Thailand in 1987 he founded and was CEO of Seamico Securities Plc, a diversified corporate finance, fund management and stock broking company which he built and took public on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1995. Seamico was the first Thai securities company to diversify out of Thailand through acquisitions of securities firms in London, Hong Kong and Mumbai.
In 2000 Aung Htun founded Thai Strategic Capital, a Bangkok based private equity fund manager where he led investments into companies such as B-Quik (Thailand’s largest autocare chain), Modern Asia Environmental Holdings (a major ASEAN waste management group) and Wuttisak Clinic Group (Thailand’s largest skincare clinic chain).
In 2013 Aung Htun founded and is Managing Director of Myanmar Investments International (“MIL”) an investment holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange that focuses exclusively on making long term investments in Myanmar.
In addition to being a non executive director of SET listed Draco PCB Plc, in the financial sector he has been an executive director of an SET listed general insurance company for the last 10 years and until 2014 was a director and audit committee member KT Zmico Securities.
